Some people have had trouble viewing movies, such as on the Video page or other websites like YouTube, on their PC. Turns out that they have a new PC with a 64-bit processor and were using Microsoft's Internet Explorer browser. The problem is that Adobe has not yet (as of Dec. 2009) upgraded their Flash Player that handles streaming video in the browser so that it runs on a 64-bit processor.

One solution is to use a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome, which are still 32-bit applications. If you still want to use the MS Internet Explorer, you can follow the steps outlined below. (Fittingly, this is posting 101 on the message board. Wink It may save you a trip to the Geek Squad.)

First, click on the Start button in the lower left corner of the screen and select 'All Programs'. If you see two versions of Internet Explorer listed, use the one without (64-bit). You can also put an icon for it on your desktop by right clicking on that entry and selecting Send to...Desktop. If you can't find the 32-bit version here, continue with the following steps.

Open up Windows Explorer, either using the appropriate icon (e.g. Computer) or a tab in the task bar at the bottom of the screen.

Navigate to the folder where the 32-bit applications are stored, i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer [Note the (x86)].

In this folder, locate iexplorer.exe (or just iexplorer) and right click on this item.

Select Send to Desktop (create shortcut).

You will now have an icon on your desktop from which you can start the 32-bit version of IE. (You might want to label it as such.) When you start up the browser, be sure to check that it is the correct version. Select 'About Internet Explorer' from the Help menu and make sure that the version number does not show 64-bit Version.

When you try to look at a video, you may still get the message 'Get the latest Flash Player'. Click on that message and follow the instructions to install the plug-in.

Then, enjoy the videos.
