The software for creating postings on this message board has a number of text editing features, such as bold, italics and underlining. It even has a feature to add emoticons (“smilies”). However, you may be wondering how to add special characters that are not on a standard keyboard, such as umlauts in German words or other diacritical marks.
The simplest way to add these features is to compose your posting in a word processor, like Microsoft Word, first off-line. These programs have an ‘Insert/Symbol’ command that allows you to select special characters and add them to the text. When you have completed the text of the posting, simply cut and paste it into the on-line entry box for posting on the message board.
Using a word processor first also helps me catch my spelling errors (but unfortunately not some grammatical errors). |
