Back in the 1940's to 50's there was a friendly rivalry between the people living in North Concordia and those in South Concordia. The dividing line between these two groups was the MoPac railroad tracks. One would refer to another person as being "from the other side of the tracks" not necessarily in a derogatory sense or indicating which side was better or worse. Perhaps it was because St. Paul's Lutheran Church and school were in North Concordia, while the public school, Evangelical, Baptist, and Methodist churches were located in South Concordia.

For many years the unofficial mayor of North Concordia was Herman "Snieder" Steljes while blacksmith Emil Holsten was the mayor of South Concordia. They liked to play practical jokes on each other. One example is when Herman stopped at Emil's shop and offered to give him a ride, but insisted that he sit in the backseat of the car. He drove around for a while and then stopped in front of Topsy's. Herman then went inside the cafe and announced that he was giving Mrs. Wukasch a ride. People went outside to take a look and there sat Emil in the backseat. To understand the humor of this prank one needs to know a little bit about the Wukasch family. Teacher Joe Wukasch was the principal of St. Paul's Elementry school and his wife operated a variety store in Concordia. Mrs. Wukasch was a hard-nose businesswoman, particularly when it came to collecting state sales tax. she would break a dollar bill to collect one or two mils of tax. When the Wukasches drove around town Mrs. Wukasch would always sit in the back seat, never in the front seat next to her husband. She apparently liked to be chauffered around.

When it came time to build a new ballpark there did not appear to be much debate about where to build it. It was moved from its original location in North Concordia (just behind Shady Rest where St. Paul's High School football field is located) to South Concordia (at the south end of Bismark St. where Concordia High School is now located). So Wahoo Boeschen moved his Concordia Indians franchise from North Concordia to South Concordia without much argument.
