“aus bei mit nach seit von zu.” How many of you remember that cheer by the SPC student body during a basketball game in Kaeppel gymnasium? Besides the usual cheers, there were others in foreign languages. The cheer listed above is a recitation of German prepositions. It was inspired by Prof. Lando Otto, a German instructor at SPC during the mid 1900’s. He suggested that it was a good time for the students to practice their German and presumably encourage the players to weave through their opponents on the way to the basket.
Over time more cheers were developed in other languages that the students were required study. Some were in Greek. One was the Hebrew alphabet, “Alef Bet Gimel …” |
