The excitement and frenzy of the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017 quickly disappeared after that day. However, for the record, it should be noted that the area around Concordia was under the direct path of totality and provided an excellent vantage point for viewing it. The City of Concordia hosted a celebration in Central Park and businesses closed so that everybody could go outside to watch the eclipse.

Early in the morning of Eclipse Day the sky was cloudy with misty rain. Some of the visitors who came to the area scrambled out of town in an attempt to find a clearer viewing location; but, the best strategy was to just stay put. At the start of the eclipse the clouds parted providing a clear blue sky through totality and beyond. A sequence of photos of the eclipse taken from the picnic area on the north side of Pape Lake can be found at https://www.flickr.com/photos/dpape/sets/72157685513353614 .
Our family gathering at the picnic area spontaneously began singing "O beautiful for spacious skies...." during totality.

Being only a few miles north of Whitman AFB, the area around Concordia provided a bonus view available nowhere else in the world. During the early phase of the eclipse several B2 stealth bombers performed a slow roll-over maneuver. This provided a rare sight of the belly of the bomber. {see the picture below) Note The pilots apparently were instructed to stay away during totality so as not to interfere with observation and scientific measurements.
