Pictures are a great addition to postings on the message board. That's why I had my son add that feature to the concordia-memories board.
In order to add photos, one has several options. The first and easiest way is to use is the attachment feature. This adds photos to the bottom of your posting. When you click on the 'newtopic' or 'postreply' button, the upper portion of the page is used to enter the title and text of the message. At the bottom is an area to add attachments. Use the 'Browse' button to point to the filename where photo is stored and then add any comment in the box below that to add any additional information. When you click on the "Add Attachment' button, the file is uploaded to the website's database so that it is available for display, even when your computer is off-line. The process can be repeated to add multiple pictures. [Note. There is a minor quirk in the board implementation that, when you click on the 'Preview' button after adding multiple photos, they will appear last down to first. But don't worry. After submitting the posting, the photos will appear first to last.] When using this feature, try to limit the photo size to 1024 pixels in width so that the posting is not unduly wide on the screen.
A second alternative is to embed a link to a photo (or any file) in the text of the posting by using the BBcode feature to add the URL to the file within the text. (See the User Guide.) This creates a hyperlink to access the file, either popping up in the browser or prompting where to download it. But be forewarned that the location to which the URL points must be on-line 24/7 for readers to access it. This is OK if the location is a website; but, if it is stored on your own computer, the file will not be found if your machine is off-line or turned off.)
Finally, if you prefer to see the photos within the text of your message, you can use whatever word processor you prefer that can imbed photos to create a file and then put a short message and link to that file in your posting on the message board. But again, the file must be stored in a location that can be accessed 24/7.
Many people have a storage area "in the cloud" (such as Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, and Dropbox or flickr for photos) so that storing files there (including .pdf and other files) will make them available at all times.
One final approach is to use the 'Add Attachment' feature of the board. This way the file will be uploaded to this website and be online 24/7. Simply use the 'Browse' to locate where you have the file stored, add a comment in the box and click on 'Add attachment'. In the message body above, you would give a summary of the contents of the file and direct the reader to click on 'Download' in the attachment at the bottom. This will give the readers the option to view it in their browser or download the file.
[04/12/2017] Excuse my faulty memory, but there is a way to embed photos within the text of a posting so that it is displayed along with the text. At the point in the text where you want to embed a photo, simply use the [img] BBcode. It is essentially the same as the [url] code, but displays the photo inline. Using this feature, one must add the URL link to the photo which needs to be stored in a location that is on-line at all times. [RLP] |
