My father had a fondness for motion pictures, particularly home movies. It started when he purchased his trusty old 16mm Keystone camera and projector. He would drive around the Concordia area taking pictures of various people, locations, and events. I hope you have viewed some of those movies. Links to them are posted on the Videos page of this website. I still get contacts from people who recognize themselves or family members in some of the clips. One time, while visiting Concordia, I met a lady in Topsy's Cafe who was the Dairy Princess milking a cow in one of those clips. (See 'Street fairs' in the http://concordia-memories.org/MovieFiles.html page.)

Dad also liked to show these movies as well as other rented cartoons and movies at a number of events, particularly after he bought a sound projector. (See http://concordia-memories.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=278.) I can still remember narrating a film of our summer vacation to Yellowstone Park at a showing of the new line of Dodge cars at Jul Holstein's Garage. Dad would also show cartoons and educational films at St. Paul's School. The students would be dismissed and assemble in the second floor auditorium of the school. One time, he showed a travelogue of New York State, which include a segment about Radio City Music Hall and the Rockettes show. After we returned to the classroom, Teacher Joe Wukasch gave us a lecture about the scandalous behavior of the Rockettes in their scanty outfits and high kicking dance routines. He said that Mr. Pape apologized for not having reviewed the film earlier. Honest me, I blurted out “But we watched the movie last night at home”. That was the last time that Dad showed a movie at St. Paul's School.
