Some time ago, the Dieckhoff family had Anna Pape Dieckhoff record her memories of life on the Pape farm and around the Concordia area as well as other memorable events. A series of tape recordings were made over a period of time (apparently scripted). The total set of recordings is over two hours in length. Son Phil separated the audio as best as possible by subject into 55 separate clips. Because of the way in which Anna rambled between various thoughts, some of the clips may include several different topics.

The recordings are stored on this website and can either be heard directly in your browser (depending on how it is configured) or downloaded to your computer and played with the appropriate software. There are two sets of files. In one set, the audio clips were put into videos (slide shows in MP4 format) with a title and occasional photos in some of them. The other set of files are audio only (MP3 format). One should be able to hear (view) both types of files in a reasonably up-to-date version of Windows Media Player, QuickTime, or other comparable multimedia player.

Because of the large number of files, they were listed in a table with a label, description and links to either set of files. Just click on either the MP4 link for the slide show or the MP3 link for the audio only. At the end of the table are links to the combined sets with all clips in one file. Note that this last audio only file was bookmarked in an M4B book reader format. If you play that file in QuickTime, you will a have a list of bookmarks that will allow you to jump to any particular segment in the file. This table is posted in the Jacob Pape family history section of the Genealogy page, or you can go directly to the table using the following link:

If clicking on any of the links in this table does not play the file in your browser, try right clicking on the link and select ‘Save link as …’ to download the file to your computer. You probably have a program on you computer that will play the file. Note that the combined files are very large and may take a long time to either show up in the browser or finish downloading to the computer. So be patient.

As noted above, if you use QuickTime to play the large audio only file, you will be able to select a bookmark from a pull-down list to jump to any section of the file without having to play it from the beginning. You can also using the slider in the player to move to any section of this file. The video player will have a similar slider.
