In some earlier postings, I had traced my Kappelmann ancestors to the Boeuf Creek area of Franklin Co. and from there back to Borgholzhausen, Germany. One of the key identifications was that of J. H. Kappelmann living just east of Detmold, MO. Unfortunately, this conflicted with some earlier genealogical research (appearing in various family trees) which associated this person with another Kappelmann family.

In the attached file (JHKappelmann.pdf), I have laid out the case why I think my identification is correct. The primary piece of evidence is the 1876 special Missouri census for Franklin Co. In it, the family of my great-grandfather John “Henry” Kappelmann is accurately listed in the Detmold/Boeuf Creek area. Other family stories would also tend to support the connection.
